Library Bookcase Boiserie Bibliothèque
A rare pair of heliocodal French Directoire library bookcases in solid walnut. This type of bookcases is also known as 'boiseries de Bibliothèque' as they often, together with panneling and a mantelpiece, formed a complete library room. The moulded corniche resting on round colomns with moulded capitals enclosing adjustable softwood shelves with walnut front rounding. The back in softwood and the shelves are finished in a pale brown organic paint. The bases each have five doors flanked by corintian colomns and fitted with the original wooden turnknobs. Their interiors have one shelf each. The style of these bookcases can be situated at the end of the Directoire and the beginning of the Empire period, circa 1800. It was made by a master craftsman in the Toulouse region and by repute had its provenance in a local city mansion. You can find the basic dimensions in the layouts included.
